Have you ever found it interesting that the only difference between the words finance and fiance is one letter? Are you interested in proposing to you significant other, but you dont want to pay an exorbitant amount of money on a ring? If you are currently looking to propose to your wonderful girlfriend, but get sick when looking at the prices you see when going to a retail store to look at rings, I have a solution for you. I just proposed to my girl friend on Christmas day, since I haven’t been out of college for a long time the I didn’t have large sums of money to spend on a ring, but I also didn’t want her to squint to be able to see her diamond. So, do you want to know how I got my fiance a 1 karat diamond without going into debt or without spending an arm and a leg to get it?
In order to get the enagagement ring it was a two part process. First, I got a loose diamond, and second I had it set. The diamond I got from a gold buyer. When a gold buyer buys a ring, he has to seperate all the stones from the gold in order to send it to the refinery. Typically, they will have a diamond wholesaler that they sell the diamonds to after they are seperated from the ring. Luckily, we have a family friend who has a chain of gold buying stores (Thank you A&Y), but I am sure that any gold buyer would be willing to sell some of his diamond inventory to you. Depending on the cut color and clarity of the diamond, you could spend between a couple hundred $$ to a thousand. Finding a diamond you are happy with will be the largest challenge. It may take some time before the store has a diamond that meets your specifications and your budget. After you get the diamond all you have to do is take the stone to a local jewler and look at their bands and ask them to set the diamond. From my experience a tiffany setting will run between $300 and $400 for the band and setting. For my fiance I ended up getting her a beautiful 1 Karat clarity enhanced diamond in a white gold tiffany setting for under $2000.
Some other resources you can use to look for diamonds is ebay.com, and local pawn shops. I know we face tough economic times right now, but that doesn’t mean you have to put your life on hold, and still get your wife to be a stunning engagement ring.
